When you make the decision that you want to lose weight it will be important that you are mentally prepared for it. While this is a simple concept, it is a well known fact that most people who start a diet will end up walking away from their weight loss plan for some very surprising reasons. It isn’t so much that they hunger pains or don’t like the food choices that their diet follows, they fail because of psychological reasons.

People abandon their diet plans for all sorts of reasons, but if examined closely there are just a few categories that these “excuses” fall into. They either get impatient with their progress, feel guilty about not sticking to their diet 100% of the time, or they just start feeling sorry for themselves and come to the conclusion that they deserve to eat whatever they want. It is at this point when the blame game starts.

People have a real talent for blaming everything and everybody else for their failures. With a failed attempt at losing weight the usual suspects are the diet-plan itself, problems with their spouse or family, problems at work, or their metabolism. Once the blame game starts it can last for years or even a lifetime. Some people will spend years attempting to lose weight on one sort of a diet or another. Sometimes they will spend their whole life on a diet and never reach their weight goal. It is sad because they also will go through their whole lives blaming something or somebody for their own failure. In far too many of these situations the problem has its roots in how the dieter’s psychological outlook on diet and weight loss plays into their insecurities.

Lets take a brief look at the psychological problems that dieters get caught up on, as well as some suggestions to get past these problems:

Lacking A Complete Understanding Of The Benefits Of Weight Loss

Lifestyle changes are necessary in order to assure success with your weight loss goals. Your eating habits are going to be turned upside down, so you might as well accept this fact and move on. What will typically happen at the beginning of a diet is a strict adherence to the plan. We all get excited when we start out on a new adventure and try to do whatever it is that we are involved with to the best of our abilities. We are motivated to succeed. Then after a few short weeks reality starts to set in. The new foods that we are eating and the different decisions that we are making regarding portions and the new times that we choose to eat all start to change our normal style of living.

It is because of these changes our gung-ho attitude towards are new diet will slowly creep away. We start viewing our diet as an obtrusive drag on our life, instead of as a bright new beginning to a more healthy weight and physique. All of a sudden our diet starts feeling like a chore rather then a step in the right direction and a new life.

In the end it all comes down to tackling this problem before it get out of hand. In order to move on from this type of problem, you will need to form a clear picture in your head as to the reasons you want to lose weight. We don’t do anything unless there is a clear benefit that we receive in return for our participation. So the benefit has to be undeniable and as plain as black and white. Without this undeniable benefit to think of as a goal, our old habits and lifestyle will tempt us and we are not good at beating back temptation.

You would think that with a diet the goals of losing weight and good health would do the trick. But they are not strong enough reasons to get us to stick to a diet. What is necessary is a highly personal, specific, self-centered benefit. One that that we can get wrapped up in and remain focused on without any regards to temptation.

Wanting to be able to walk down the beach in a bikini and look attractive is a benefit that you can easily visualize and it is all about you! Maybe you would want to appear striking in a new outfit that you can wear to a dinner party. Once again, easy to visualize and it is all about you! No matter how you decide which goal holds the largest benefit for you, as long as it resonates it is good. Don’t forget, we don’t want you feeling like “you must” lose weight. When you must do something it becomes a chore and that is not good. Nobody likes chores. Permanent weight loss can only happen if “you want” to follow a diet and healthy lifestyle.

Perfection Is Not The Goal

Statistics tell us that at any given time 43% of the people in the USA are on a diet or thinking about going on a diet. And you could bet the ranch that not a single one of these people are perfect. While your betting the ranch you can throw in the mortgage and make a side bet that all of these people that are on a diet make mistakes ever single day. They have their ups and downs on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Sometimes they fall totally of the wagon and shred their diet to bits. However in the end, if they had the proper motivation all along, they would regroup and pick up where they left off. Success would be theirs in the end. Oh Really? Absolutely, because at the end of the day there is an old saying that holds true: All of us learn more from our mistakes then we do from our successes.

A common mistake that a whole lot of dieters seem obsessed about making is the insistence on perfection. So when they make a mistake, eat what they shouldn’t, skip a day of exercise, they take it all too seriously and have a way of not being able to take the setback in stride. They accept failure as finality. What ends up happening is that a meaningless setback derails the strength ta person needs to continue.

It is not that they ate food that they shouldn’t. And it is not that they skipped a day of exercising that was scheduled. What sapped their strength to continue on the diet was that they did not have the proper psychological outlook at the start of the diet. Here is teachable moment: Perfection is for perfectionist not for dieters. The pursuit of perfection will only lead a person down the road to failure. Nobody is perfect. A more positive way to think about the whole episode is like this: Realize that mistakes happen and that they do not play a part in your ultimate success. The making of a mistake does not mean you have failed and it certainly doesn’t mean that you are a bad person.

Speed Kills

There is no such thing as a healthy diet that will allow you to lose weight fast. Do not be fooled into believing that there are legitimate diets that will allow quick weight loss as a goal. When somebody on a diet thinks that they should be losing weight quickly, and then they find out that is not going to happen, they are more than likely not psychologically prepared for the diminishing of their expectations. When a few days pass without any results, they start to give up. They think that once again it is the diet that is not working for them. What people don’t realize is that the diet is not working for anybody.

It is too bad that people do not have a better understanding of basic human biology. Our bodies are designed to survive and not to look like a model in a fashion magazine. With this small nugget of information it would not be a tremendous leap to the understanding that the human body really does not want to get rid of fat. The body views fat as an essential source of stored energy that can be used when needed. Because of this, the most fat any person can lose in a 7 day period is 3 pounds. The less overweight you are the less quickly you can lose fat. If you are 30 pounds or less overweight then the most fat you can expect to lose in a 7 day period is 1 pound.

If you lose more weight than that you are not losing fat but rather your are losing water and muscle. That is not healthy and your body will not put up with this loss for very long. Don’t obsess over how fast you are losing weight. Be happy that you are losing weight. Remember, speed kills and your not in a race. Your change in lifestyle is an adventure. Thinking about it like that will help diminish the pressure you feel and give you the space you will need to succeed as you to start to embrace new and healthy choices.

For goodness sakes don’t be one of those people who checks their weight several times a day to see how the diet is working. Adopting this type of destructive behavior will only encourage you to view weight loss as a short term project rather than a lifelong journey. While everybody would like to reach their ideal weight as quickly as possible, you need to realize this one important fact: The extra weight you are trying to lose will stay off longer if you lose it slow rather than fast. Remember this because many weight loss tips don’t work but this one does!

You need to sit down and be honest with yourself. Figure out how much weight you can reasonably expect to lose and still remain healthy. Once you arrive at that number make it your goal. If you want to lose 50 pounds, calendar out a period of 6 months to obtain your goal. If you happen not to reach your goal in 6 months then take another month. Taking one extra month to reach your goal is not failure, it is success.

As we said in the beginning, psychological problems can make or break your weight loss goals. Understanding them will increase your opportunity to succeed at losing weight. When you are ready to start out on yet another diet, remember to have your mind in the right place so that you can be in really good position to accomplish your weight loss goals.

Do you want to lose weight fast for that special holiday or to impress a certain someone? While there are many things you can do to lose weight you should never aim to lose too much too quickly. This can be dangerous and detrimental to your health. Faddy diets can help you lose a lot of weight in a short space of time but carry the risks of damaging your organs. The right way to lose weight fast but without risk to your health is to follow some of the simple steps outlined below.

Lose weight fast tip #1 – Reduce your daily calorie intake
Losing weight isn’t hard as long as you have figured out that you need to burn off more calories than you take in. Write down how many calories you take in over a week and then figure out ways to reduce it either by exercising a bit more or eating smaller portions.

Lose weight fast tip #2 – Figure out from your list what you can’t live without
You won’t stick you your new diet if it is bland, dull and boring. The key to losing weight quickly is to adjust the amount of calories you consume but also leave in a few of your favourite foods so you’re getting a reward from losing weight.

Lose weight fast tip #3 – Figure out which unhealthy foods to ditch
You might look at your list of food and see that you eat a lot of junk. Figure out which junk you can get rid of and the ones you just can’t do without.

Lose weight fast tip #4 – Sort out the most important meal of the day
While a greasy fry up of bacon and eggs can be gratifying you are probably better off giving it a miss. Start your day off with something low fat like porridge, oatmeal or a low fat yoghurt.

Lose weight fast tip #5 – Plan your meals in advance
Losing weight quickly doesn’t need to be a trial by fire, it can actually be quite fun. Look up new and interesting alternative recipes that are both tasty and satisfying. There are literally thousands of recipe sites on the internet and you will never be stuck for a variety of healthy meals to choose from.

Lose weight fast tip #6 – Reduce your portion sizes
Most people fail at their diets because they are simply starving themselves, become miserable and then break their diet in a spectacular way. Don’t do this! All you need to do to lose weight quickly is to reduce your portion sizes, make them a little bit smaller and you should see a difference in your slimming attempts.

Think about this – .45kg of fat contains approximately 3500 calories. Whether you use green tea, wu long tea or some other weight loss method to lose one pound of fat in seven days a person needs to take 3500 calories below what they normally would a day. This calorie reduction can be through exercise, diet control or a combination of the two.

Though they may not be magic cures green tea’s do have some scientific studies to back up that they aid weight loss and have many wide ranging health benefits. Recently in the USA there have been countless clinical trials and studies into the benefits of tea consumption, especially in loose leaf teas. These teas have been shown to aid slimming, block allergens, increase the metabolism and protect drinkers from Parkinson’s disease. Research from scientists in Japan came to the conclusion that if a person was drinking five cups of green tea a day they would burn off an extra 70-80 calories each day through a process called thermo genesis – the process of organisms generating heat. While most of the thermo genesis in teas comes from the caffeine, studies suggest that in green teas it may also be caused by epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).

Slimming teas such as green tea and wu long tea (sometimes written as oolong tea) have long been used by dieters and slimmer’s globally to help them with their weight loss. If you consider the previous fact that loose leaf teas can burn off 70-80 extra calories per day if a person changed nothing about their lifestyle over a 43 day period, the only thing they did differently was drink 5 cups of tea per day then over that time period they would lose 1 pound in weight. It doesn’t sound like a lot but for doing nothing but drinking 5 cups a day it is actually a pretty impressive weight loss. So if you drink a lot of alcohol and it’s causing you to stick at an unhealthy weight, if you could stop drinking the alcohol and switch over to green tea, you would very likely experience even more weight loss.

Because of this small but excellent loss that really takes nothing to implement, millions of people across the world now drink these teas to help slimming and lose weight. They have been proven to really work and to be an excellent weapon in any dieter’s arsenal. So if a small but steady weight loss as a little boost is something you are looking for, why not try drinking one of the thousands of green teas out there?

We all know that walking as a form of exercise is always good as part of a weight loss program. To lose weight and keep it off, you just need to get moving! Fast weight loss products can help get you on the right track and give you incentive if they’re healthy for you. However, walking to lose weight is a great way to shed pounds naturally without killing yourself in a workout, or taking something that may be temporary. Here’s some information and weight loss tips that work in walking for weight loss:

If you’re not use to exercise or going for walks, begin at your pace and 15 minutes a day, building up as you get more fit. Then you can begin walking at a moderate pace for up to 30-60 minutes, which burns more stored fat, and can build your muscle to speed up your metabolism. It also reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, heart disease, colon cancer and breast cancer. If you want to lose weight, get fit and healthy, walking is a great way to do this. Running for weight loss is obviously good for this, but it can also be harder on your body, so if you have pre-existing medical conditions or injuries that prevent you from running for weight loss, you would want to talk to your doctor first to develop a plan that works for you.

Walking to Lose Weight and Burn Calories and Fat

Your weight is mostly determined by the balance of calories you take in vs. how many you burn each day. To lose weight, you need to increase your activity to burn more calories and/or eat fewer calories every day. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories, so to lose one pound a week you’ll need to burn 3500 more calories that week than you eat, whether this is by increasing your activity, reducing what and how much you eat, or both. Losing 1-2 pounds of fat a week is sensible, and you’ll want to combine increased activity like walking to lose weight, and eating less.

Your weight times the distance you walk equals the energy you use walking. Time is not as important as the distance, particularly if you’re a beginner. It’s best to increase the distance before working on your speed. A basic rule of thumb is 100 calories per mile for a 180 pound individual. Obviously when you speed up your walking you’ll burn more calories, but save this for when you’re in better condition.

The main thing with walking and weight loss is to literally “take that first step” and build on it “one step at a time”! Begin at 15 minutes a day, building the the time and distance as you can. Once you feel you can increase the speed some, go ahead. Walking to lose weight will burn more calories and fat, and it’s one of the easiest forms of exercise. Just get moving! These are weight loss tips that work, and I hope they help you.

We all know that everybody breathes, it’s a simple fact of being alive. But did you know that breathing properly can be the key to becoming healthier and even losing weight? Unless you’re a professionally trained opera singer you probably breathe like most of the world and breathe from your chest. The proper way to breathe is exactly how singers are taught, you breathe in so deeply that you feel your lungs expanding into your stomach! Breathing in this way allows your body to use its full lung capacity and could be a way to aid slimming and lose some weight.

So how can breathing properly help you with your weight loss? Well, once you have started using a deep breathing method you will feel refreshed and relaxed. The extra oxygen that you are taking in is giving your body more fuel to work with and the toxins released by your body that cause weight gain are released which give your immune system a serious boost. Another perfect example of how breathing properly will help your slimming is that over time your metabolism will slowly but surely increase until you are burning more calories and you noticeably lose weight.

Breathing properly to aid your slimming couldn’t be easier. All you need to do is practice and it’s the kind of exercise you can practice anywhere; on the bus, in the car, or in the middle of a hectic day at work. Just concentrate on taking the deepest breath in that you can and hold it for 10 seconds. Once you have tried a few times 10 seconds may be no problem, but now try for 20 seconds! It may feel somewhat unpleasant to start with but this is not unusual. Your body is simply adjusting to the new breathing method and it takes a bit of time. Just keep it up and you will lose weight in no time. Once your breathing pattern has adjusted to the new deep breaths you will start to feel good and before long you will see that you are slimming down.

Probably the best place to start your trying to change your breathing and learning breathe properly would be in bed or while you’re lying down comfortably. The main reason for this is that while you’re sat at your computer or watching TV you are probably hunched over in some way which will decrease your lung capacity quite a bit. Until your body has adjusted to your new breathing, why make things harder for yourself?

So if you want to learn how to breathe properly to lose weight or just as an addition to your slimming arsenal then adjust your breathing for your weight loss!

Traditionally, most families tend to eat three big meals each day. It has become a habit, something kids learn from their parents. However, this isn’t really the best way to lose weight.

When you only eat a few times a day your body has to contend with not having food for a number of hours at a time. A lot of people end up getting hungry in between meals and eating snacks, which can be okay if done right, but can wind up causing you to overeat if you are not careful about what you snack on. Also, if your body has long periods without food it tends to store more fat. The answer is to eat more often.

1. Buy Healthy Foods

If you are going to make an effort to eat more often, you need to make sure that you have healthy food options to choose from. You don’t want to eat the same old unhealthy junk or you will not lose weight. Stock up on things like whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and soups. There are a lot of resources available for free on the internet that list the healthiest foods, these are a great start for your grocery list the next time you go shopping.

2. Make a Plan

The easiest way to start eating more meals (and healthier meals) is to write down what you plan to eat for each meal and use this to make your grocery list. This way you know what you should eat and when, and you will have all of the necessary ingredients. Stick to your list and your plan.

3. Eat Every Three Hours

When you are first getting used to this new way of eating, it might be a good idea to set your phone or your watch to remind you when it is time to eat. Eventually your body will get used to the new schedule and so will you and it will be easy to remember to eat on your own.

4. Don’t Eat Outside of Your Five Meal Plan

Eating five smaller meals (with the same total calories as the three meals you used to eat or fewer) should give your body plenty of fuel. Don’t eat anything outside of your meals. Get rid of all the tempting but not so healthy cookies and crackers and things you used to snack on between meals.

5. Keep Your Eating and Drinking Separate

You will feel fuller sooner if you don’t drink beverages with your meals. Drink some water or some tea a bit before you eat, and then a short while afterwards.

Weight loss is an area that has a lot of disagreements. This is understandable considering how complex our bodies are and how differently we react to different conditions. The reality is, what works for one person may not work that well for another. If you are interested in slimming your body, though, there are a few things you should know about low carb diets.

The main problem with the term low carb is that people think there is no middle ground. Either you are following a diet based on an extremely low carbohydrate count, like the Atkins diet, or you don’t worry about the amount of carbohydrate grams you intake. As usual, both ends of the spectrum are wrong and finding a middle ground is the way to go.

Have you wondered why the rates of obesity and diabetes have skyrocketed in the last few years? Many doctors now believe it is because of our reliance on carbohydrates as a mainstay of our fast food culture. The fact is, loading a meal with simple carbs is cheap for the restaurant and yet gives a very tasty meal. It is no wonder that almost every meal is based on lots of cheap carbohydrate rich foods with very little protein and fresh fruits and vegetables. These carb rich foods are high in calories and high in simple sugars both of which cause unhealthy conditions in our bodies. The calories cause obesity and the simple sugars are easily converted to blood sugar in our digestive systems which overworks our insulin response. This eventually causes an inability of our pancreas to produce the insulin needed to stay off diabetes.

There also appears to be evidence indicating massive carb loading can actually alter brain chemicals and cause an addiction tendency in some people. The more carbohydrates we eat the more we crave and it becomes a viscous circle causing weight gain and obesity. This is another good reason to eat low carb meals instead of loading up on white bread, potatoes and pasta.

So the question is for a slimmer body can you eat carbohydrates? The answer is yes but, as is usually the case, you need to consume them in moderation. If you eat a diet rich in lean protein such as chicken, fish, and lean beef, along with fruits, vegetables, and complex carbohydrates such as whole grains, you will slim your body down. This diet does two things, it naturally lowers your calorie count and it allows your insulin reaction to be more balanced. Add some moderate exercise and you have a prescription for life long health.

When it comes to losing weight, many women struggle with finding the right combination of diet and exercise, and then end up getting frustrated and quitting. This is unfortunate, because slimming doesn’t have to be hard! By following just a few of these tried and true weight loss tips, you will quickly be on your way to discovering a new you.

Tip #1: Follow your grandma’s old rule about drinking eight to ten glasses of water a day. Not only is water essential to a healthy body, but with all that water in your stomach, your appetite naturally decreases!

Tip #2: Save big meals for breakfast and lunch. Most people eat their biggest meal of the day at dinnertime, leaving just a few hours for burning off calories – which generally isn’t enough time. So eat large breakfasts and lunches, and have light dinners.

Tip #3: If you are the type who works out, cut down on the strength training. This is a simple one: muscle is heavier than fat, and too much strength training will build lots of muscles. More muscle equals more weight!

Tip #4: Splurge once or twice a week. It’s hard to strictly follow a diet, and many women find the temptation to cheat too great. But by allowing yourself one or two “cheater” meals a week, that temptation is removed.

Tip #5: Just say no. If you are following tip #4, then you’re going to have to choose which cravings to follow. When you get the urge to splurge, give yourself fifteen minutes. You’ll be surprised at how quickly those urges disappear. This is a good strategy for when you want to eat between meals also.

Tip #6: Exercise in the morning. This one is easy too: if you start out your day exercising, you give your metabolism a kick in the butt that will last all day.

Tip #7: Exercise every day. Every single day, engage is some form of cardio, strength training, or both. Enough said.

Tip #8: When you get bucked off, get right back on that horse. You are human, and you will make mistakes, like eating a whole pizza right before bed. The trick is to forgive yourself, and keep trying.

Tip #9: Eat four to six small meals a day. Eating small meals encourages your metabolism to burn calories faster!

Tip #10: Before giving into those late night snack attacks, have a cup of tea. A nice, hot cup of tea will ward off those feelings of hunger.

Many people these days are considered overweight or even clinically obese. When an overweight person finally decides that it is time to lose weight, most people are tempted to try the latest fad diet that promises the fastest results. Unfortunately, that is the worst thing that you can do for your body. Yes, the fad diet may help you lose a few pounds in a short time, but the weight loss will not be permanent. Most people gain the weight back quickly and may even gain back more than they lost originally. This is called “Yo-Yo” dieting. The truth is that diets don’t work!

One of the reasons that diets don’t work is that many people eat “diet” foods. They choose foods that they may not like very much just because they hold the promise of weight loss. When you change your eating habits for weight loss, you must find foods that you enjoy eating and eat the proper portion sizes. To have a healthy lifestyle for the rest of your life you must continue eating the proper amount of healthful foods.

Another reason diets don’t work is that we usually associate the word “diet” with punishing ourselves. We’ve been eating badly so now we have to be punished by eating healthy foods. Or we may think of dieting as depriving ourselves of all of the yummy treats that we desire. We may even feel isolated and alone. All of your friends are able to eat cake at the party and you can’t. Eventually, we give in to the temptations.

Diets slow down your metabolism. When you drastically change your eating habits or eat too few calories, your body will burn less calories in normal daily functions to preserve energy. When you diet and don’t add exercise your body will be burning muscle as well as fat, and then your metabolism will slow even further with the loss of the lean muscle. Once you are done with your diet your metabolism will be extremely sluggish and then as you begin to eat the fattier foods you will gain your weight back within a few weeks. You want to eat in a way that boosts your metabolism, not slow it down.

There are even so many more reasons why diets don’t work than just these, but the bottom line is that dieting is just not going to give you the long term forever weight loss that most people desire. In order to achieve long term weight loss, you must get active every day for 30-60 minutes, as well as eat foods that are nutritionally sound in the proper portion sizes each day. If you do this, then over time you will lose weight gradually and keep it off.

There always seems to be a new diet out every few months that is the latest and greatest thing since sliced bread. It is puzzling sometimes to try and figure how the latest and greatest diets can only last a year or so before they are replaced. After all, if they truly were great diets, wouldn’t they withstand the test of time. Many people are trying to lose weight amidst extremely busy schedules and they buy into the empty promises of these fad diets. People experience the yo yo dieting trend because their bodies adjust to the diets and they end up gaining some weight back. This path doesn’t lead anywhere positive, so it is important to learn how to truly lose weight and keep it off.

The common component in many of the fad diets that lead to the yo yo dieting effect is reduced calories throughout the day. This does not really teach people how to eat sensibly and maintain a healthy diet. When lean muscle mass is built up, that muscle is much more effective at burning calories throughout the day than fat is. Another common trend for these quick diet plans is to have people gain back weight that they have lost because their bodies need more calories and they end up binge eating because they have essentially starved themselves for a few weeks. This up and down weight gain and loss is where the yo yo effect gets its name from.

Many of the fad diets also start out with a period of time where people essentially fast and don’t eat any of the foods they would typically eat. The body doesn’t respond well to this treatment and will start to store fat as a way to protect against losing too much. This can be extremely frustrating for people and can lead them to take further drastic steps in their quest to lose more weight. This frustration can again lead to the pattern of yo yo dieting. The mental toll that this type of dieting can take can lead people to have lower self esteem and eating issues. Fatigue, increased stress levels and depression are also common symptoms of this type of dieting.

It has been proven over and over that yo yo dieting is harmful to the body, but because there is such an emphasis on looks in our society, people continue to hurt themselves with these fad diets. People can become so obsessed with losing weight that it can begin to affect their work and home life because it is all they can focus on. It is much more important to learn the right way to lose weight. Some very simple tips are these: consume enough energy each day to burn fat (this can be done through vigorous cardiovascular exercise), eat the right foods to maintain lean muscle mass, and set a plan to make these things long term habits.
